Celebrating Family: Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s Blended Family Vacation

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie recently shared a heartwarming photograph of their blended family enjoying a summer holiday at their favorite vacation home, Château de Cayx in France. The picture captured their children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, alongside Joachim’s sons from his previous marriage, Count Nikolai and Count Felix. The family looked happy and relaxed, surrounded by the stunning rolling countryside of the estate, complete with vineyards that have been producing wine for centuries.

The snapshot revealed how much the children have grown over the years, with Henrik now 15 and Athena 12. The older boys, Nikolai at 24 and Felix at 22, looked stylish in their smart-casual outfits. The family’s dog, Cerise, also made an appearance in the photograph, adding to the warmth and charm of the moment. The caption accompanying the picture celebrated Felix’s 22nd birthday and highlighted the family’s joy in being together at Château de Cayx.

While Prince Joachim has been working as the defense industry attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C., his sons have been pursuing their own careers. Nikolai, in addition to his successful modeling career, recently graduated from Copenhagen Business School with a Master of Science in Merchandising degree. Similarly, Felix, who had previously been enrolled at the Royal Danish Military Academy, now has a modeling contract with luxury jewelers, Georg Jensen. Meanwhile, Henrik and Athena continue their education in Washington D.C. after the family’s move from Paris last summer.

Nikolai’s recreation of a generational photograph at Château de Cayx added a sentimental touch to the family’s summer vacation. The image, reminiscent of one with his father, Prince Joachim, and late grandfather, Prince Henrik, struck a chord with followers of his personal Instagram account. The caption “Three generations, same place, years apart,” highlighted the continuity and bond shared by the family across the years. Followers expressed their love and support, with one acknowledging the charismatic presence of Prince Henrik and the missed legacy he left behind.

In 2022, Queen Margrethe made the decision to strip Joachim’s children of their royal titles, including Nikolai, Felix, Henrik, and Athena. This move came as a shock to many, as the Queen explained her desire for her grandchildren to “shape their own lives” without the restrictions that come with royal obligations. The children now hold the title of Count or Countess of Monpezat instead of Prince or Princess, signaling a significant shift in their status within the royal family. The decision caused turmoil within the family, leading to a rare public apology from Queen Margrethe to her grandchildren.

Despite the challenges and changes within the royal family, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, and their children continue to find joy and togetherness during their summer vacations at Château de Cayx. This idyllic retreat holds special significance for the family, with memories of past summers shared among generations. Meanwhile, Joachim’s brother, King Frederik, and Queen Mary have embraced their own tradition at Gråsten Palace in southern Denmark, underscoring the importance of family ties and cherished memories in the royal household.
